I am not sure what Rat Pack is. I have a 450 page book on Martian science to read before my scientific edit, so I'd better get to it.

Rat Pack is the code name for the APC. ID it in the game and you will see it in the description.

I don't think either NSDF or CCA scavs have a code name assigned to them. I can't remember if Chinese scavs had a code name, it seems to me that they did.

Well, I was a bit over estimating when I would have the scientific edit finished. My resource book, 'A travelers guide to Mars' is over 450 pages of geology and such, and I finally made it to page 320. Once I am done I can go back to my edit.

Research book finally read. Back to the scientific edit. Stuff I learned changes the face of many landscapes, and some battles and strategies are being rewritten.

One interesting thing. Mars is for the most part heavily covered by loose dust and sand. A hovercraft going across this will look like an old pickup truck going down a dusty road. This changes a few things.

Well back to writing.

The same conditions would apply on the Moon, which is very dusty. And due to the low gravity, a rooster tail of dust kicked up by a tank would probably rise quite high into the (non) air. Another thing to consider is that on the colder planets, especially Europa and Titan, is that ices might be sublimed into gases by the heat of the V-Thruster engine exhausts, though I'm not clear as to how hot they actually are. Methane in particular on Titan would be subjected to this, though in the hazy atmosphere you would not be able to see a gas plume from a very great distance. On Mars and the Moon, though, it would be useful to have NSDF scouts posted on higher elevations to watch for enemy dust plumes - good way to track CCA activity.

Not only would it go high, it would stay there because of the low G. Battles would actually get pretty messy on the moon.

The book took an unexpected turn. I decided to go for more reality and started rewriting Battle #1, which has a ripple effect all through the book, sometimes I think like a tidal wave. Writing is going good, ideas flowing and peices fitting together, adding a new depth of dimension that didn't exist before. I am unclear as to the finish date, but only to say at this point that it is going well. I spent three hours last weekend just researching field rations. I work on this every day, and progress, though sometimes it seems slow, is forming as surely as a hot peice of steel becomes a blade in the swordsmith's hand.

The rewrite of the first major battle in the book has been completed, much more interesting and realistic than the earlier version. All of the peices went together up to a point, then I saw a logic flaw uncovered that I had not seen before and once I plug that hole, I will either rewrite to the end or smooth out the flow to the previously written ending.

Kahless,

An thought came to mind. Would you be interested in taking a chapter of your story that is somewhat self contained and allow me to print it in the BZmag as a "Teaser/trailer" to your upcoming book?

A Chapter 'Captain Nikolai' was already posted on this forum.
http://www.battlezoneclub.org/forum/vie ... p=173#p173

I will let you know later when I get ready.

Today I was able to start a smoother integration with the new material into the old. I have to throw out some things as I come to it, and smooth out the ripples the rock I threw into the pond created. But I am back on track, my logic is falling into step and proving sound, now.

I must have at least two dozen points to go back and correct after I make the end of the story, as well as going back over all of the spelling and checking to make sure the new stuff is fully integrated into the whole book from beginning to end.

This has been a long journey, which should have its end by the end of this year. I immediately intend to launch into the sequel, whicle trying to get the first one published. Book two will be Battlezone, The Red Odyssey.

This mornign before 0800, I finished the integration process of the new material and completed the scientific edit. I have only the sniper edit and the final walkthru before I copywrite this. From there is goes to my four editors who are former military, or retired, to make sure it is sound in that way. and after any changes, I will file a copywrite revision.

Captain Nikolai? I'm not sure but didn't some nasty arsed old sniper named Gabriel take him out when he stuck his head out of a tank on Plateaus? If I recall correctly I'm thinking I heard something about him taking a tank to a sniper fight and it just didn't seem to work out very well for him... but hey, what do I know =)

Yeah, the dust trails will be the best way the 'alliance' (not trying to give away too much here) will be able to spot moving cloaked Chinese vessels in book two.

I am through with my sniper edit now. I decided to take ssuser's advise and go with plasma rifles. Hard to argue the plausability of something you've no data on, so it is a safe subject.

Now I am going though my list of things to tighten up and a walk though edit before copywriting and sending to my technical editors.

Someone once asked me if I had a publisher. The answer always was, "no, I will worry about that when I get done." I am nearly done and I have logged onto a couple of writers forums to be the best advise from ppl who have been there.

I have completed all content and research edits of the novel now. I am now just fixing grammarical errors and walking through the book line by line to make sure it is correct, all the contents agree. This has taken a long time, five years, and is drawing to a close. Only one thing remains after the line by line edit, is having my editors examine my work and correct anything they find. Once it is finished, I will approach Activision to gain permission to publish the dirivitive work.

Wow. If I had enough drive to work that long on one project, I'd be much further than I am now with my own endeavors.
