Re: Operation Wolfhunt update
You have no idea. I was finished with my line by line edit and was about to copyright it last weekend, and send it to my two editors to point out corrections. Then I found out that I had alluded to some weekly events that occurred during the course of the book and never mentioned them occurring in actual practice. So...I am picking apart and rearranging material to make allowances for the events. Good news is, the rewite of one of the days events is much richer and more interesting than before. Now it is all about putting my nose to the grindstone and getting the errors all chased out.

Re: Operation Wolfhunt update
Is it actually going to be published? or is it just going to be a online copyrighted novel. i thought it was just going to be online, but from what i have read it sounds like its going to be published. Id be sure to buy it if it is.

Re: Operation Wolfhunt update
Ok, I have finished the novel. I only have to draw one map and get it into the book, then I copyright it this weekend. I will submit it to my two editors with military background to see that all of my military protocols are tight. Once I do that, I will file a copyright revision.
One stumbling block is that my novel is a 'dirivitive work' of the copyrighted game's theme by Activision. So, I will need to hire a lawyer to approach Acti with a contract conceding some royalties before a publisher will touch it.
My orginal hope was that I could give out e-copies to club members for free. It lokks like I will have to offer e-copies to members as a modest price, to help raise money for the lawyer to do the contact. I will send out a mass mailing to the club members probably next week and offer an e-copy for $3 US. This would be more of a fundraiser to help get this published than anything else.

Hey, good going. Stuff like this lets Acti know ppl are still interested in the genre. Who knows, you may tickle some executive's mind and bring about an interest in Battlezone 3.

Re: Operation Wolfhunt update
Actually to research what I need for a release, she has to find out all the legal status of the Battlezone property. I asked her to status me on the ownership parts of the Battlezone game as well, and she said she would. I just got an email back from her saying I would hear back from her sometimes next week. I requested clearance to quote or use any part of the storyline, and she said that was no problem. I oreiginally put my own twists in it and avoided using names like Prof Arkin and Gen Collins, but if I get full permission, I will pull some of that stuff back in, including some things from the player guide and NSDF Briefing Guide.

That would be nice information to have - who actually owns the rights to what. You'll have to post that up for everyone when you find out.
I hope you get permission to use all the Battlezone names and such - I don't think the book would be the same without references to General Collins, Arkin, and so forth.

Re: Operation Wolfhunt update
Those are the only two names I would use. Other than what I have already written, with permission from Acti for full use, I entend to add the 'news release' that is on the installer about the biometal site on the Bering Straight, The log entry from Jason Bates NSDF, the log entry from Alexi Doyestrevski CCA, both found in the Battlezone Strategy Guide, and Dr. Wlhelm Arkin's letter about turning down NASA's offer of a job in lieu of getting us to the solar system in the NSDF Field Briefing Guide.
As I said in earlier posts, the entire Battlezone story was not used. It was a springboard. I never mentioned the Arkin's later betrayal. The last time he is mentioned is after he takes over as head of Research after another traitor was executed. Keep in mind I never thought I could so openly use the Battlezone story. I used the basic conceptual ideas for a springboard to launch my novel. I did not feel as though I had to stick with every peice of their story. There is no mention of Furies or the possible destruction of the Cthonian race. I do however, mention the Chinese having recovered cloaking technology from an archealogical dig, which is the basis fro book two, Battlezone:Unlikely Alliance. For the Battlezone purist, there will be much, I suppose to criticize.
I will now have to go back and change Prof. Barnett to Prof. Arkin, and change Gen. Colson to Gen. Collins.
BTW, Maj. SSuser is the Chief of Intellegence and Security of the base on Mars in which the book is written.

Re: Operation Wolfhunt update
I am now looking for the right literary agent. This morning the U.S. Copyright Office signed for my manuscript and I have a receipt. This means, from that signature, my work is protected. I have gone through a list and have 19 agents that may be suitable, and I may have a half dozen more before I complete my list. The next step is to send a query to each one according to the rules they set forth, some want just a synopsis, a writers bio, etc... Some want the first 30 pages, some a chapter. Once I get some responses back, hopefully, I can start narrowing the list down further. The idea is that someone with some skills likes my book, sells it to a publisher, and then I go to the sequel.

We are also hoping for a sizable excerpt from the novel to wet our appetite.

Anyone wanting to be a 'beta' reader of some or all or part of the book, send me an email to younggunsclan@yahoo.com . There are only two conditions.
1)you do not distribute it
2)you must promise to give me detailed feedback

Re: Operation Wolfhunt update
After spending time with Killer editing the book, and getting feedback from Grinder, I am adding another piece to the book, and rewriting the first chapter. I should have it finished for good in one month, and completely (crosses fingers) edited. My earlier attempts to contact literary agents to get the book sold were unfruitful, so I will have to start another round of that after final editing is complete. (Thanx also to VET Khat for reading the book twice and offering some positive feedback)
