Common Files (updated 2011-10-13)

Post by Dx. »

These won't change often.

Most are compressed with 7-Zip

Anet libraries:
Compiled with VC++ 2008(includes new winets2.dll) (incompatible with stock game)

Miscellaneous files:
Updated label.map (updated 2011-09-01)
Updated servers.dat
Suggested render.cfg
Broadband net.ini (updated 2011-09-25 to add RemovePlayerOnKick)
Xbox 360 Controller Configuration (copy to the "giddi" folder)
Updated input.map (binds weapon_special to middle mouse button)
Game Assets (updated 2011-10-13)
New Collision configuration (removed)

Reminders:
1. If starting from a clean retail CD install, make sure to apply the 1.4 patch and large assets pack
2. These builds require the Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package
3. If using a retail install, rename the "splash" folder to "splash_" to disable Windows 7's compatibility layer
4. If running on Windows Vista or 7, make the install folder writable
5. If having trouble, try the DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer

Updated Servers:
Servers built from Dan Kegel's master server list

If you don't mind living dangerously, you can enable the Indeo codecs in Vista and 7 with a registry change:

32 bits

Code: Select all

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32]
"vidc.iv31"="ir32_32.dll"
"vidc.iv32"="ir32_32.dll"
"vidc.iv41"="ir41_32.ax"
"vidc.iv50"="ir50_32.dll"
64 bits (Tested on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit by SnakeEye)

Code: Select all

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32]
"vidc.iv31"="ir32_32.dll"
"vidc.iv32"="ir32_32.dll"
"vidc.iv41"="ir41_32.ax"
"vidc.iv50"="ir50_32.dll"

I see the new commands for render.cfg however I am not sure how they fit in with the file I currently have. Tried a copy and paste but that didn't work. 'fraid I'm going to need some help on a few things. Want to get out of the small window syndrom, would like the graphics to work properly, need better sound (incomplete), when things blow up, everything is tossed around, can't change my command keys (could have something to do with my wireless keyboard). Getting game freeze... lockups here and there.
Not sure about the C++ thing... not my forte. Will take a look see. Currently have the 1.4 BZ98_us.exe loaded along with a few others. Win7 isn't that great, liked 2000 pro much better. My video card is a PCIe Raydeon HD 4300/4500, of course there's no render.cfg for this specific card in the "video cards" folder.

Most excellent! The bzone_d3d9.exe works well! All takes some tinkering but persistance does pay off. The resolution is great! Things are behaving as they should. Only major issue left so far is narration... it seems to be absent. Will do the addition to render.cfg as per instructions. Once I get up to speed....

yes... the story line in missions. Installed on another 'puter and narration works fine with an added addition of screamo music. Don't know where that is coming from, might be from the boys' library but no media player of anykind was up, somehow BZ is playing music from somewhere. I'm sure they will like that feature. There are problems with text and exploding vehicles throwing things all over. Thought I had done the install identicle as the first but there has been mention that installs can vary in results. Slowly but surely.

I play it from internet explorer/mplayer. The game doesn't have a way to stop it, i wore out a cd rom drive many years ago.

No, it's true, BZ was playing screamo and there was no media player open. It was weird as the music would stop during transitions and restart as play went on. Nice touch however I'd rather hear Wagner. Did get 1.5 up and running, played canyons for the first time in how many years with HAK. After a while the game crashed. Time to go drink with Sala anyway, after all it is Christmas. The excitement is palpable in the house since BZ has become an item again. My gratitude to those talented individuals who persevere.

What about mounting a virtual drive, with "screamo" music, as the same path that BZ looks to for music?

and what is the path that BZ uses to look for music? It actually searches for music? Just been told that Chiodos plays and my son wants to turn it off. Sez the volume control in options does not work. The other 'puter has plenty of music but BZ doesn't play it.

IIRC, BZ just searches in the D:\ for music (in a folder, don't know its name). If you can figure out where the song is coming from (its path) you can just move it/them elsewhere so BZ won't pick them up (this is why I think it's a virtual drive listed under D:\). If you have an aftermarket soundcard or your motherboard has its own sound software, it might be over riding the Windows Volume Control Center (kind of like how my Wireless software has the ability to do to the Windows Wireless control).

Bz gets the track off the maps trn file and plays it.
The game needs a way to turn it off.

You can dial down the music volume to zero, which I think stops playback entirely.

I'm very likely wrong about it stopping playback at zero volume. :)

What do you mean?
You want the C++5 dll for winets2.dll?

You dudes need to make an installer for this. It's confusing to me , I would hate to see a noob trying to figure this out.
