Noticeably Absent
Yes, I've been absent lately.
I've been busy playing nurse for my dog, who is infected with blastomycosis.
It's been a hellish week or so but things are looking up a bit. Look forward to seeing everyone online again soon.

Sorry to hear that. Hope she recovers 100%.
I had a rottweiler Shepard mix for 13 years. When she died, it was worse than my divorce.
Glad your back!

Re: Noticeably Absent
Hehe divorces are bad comparisons, aren't they?
Kidding aside, thank you.
It's expensive treatment and for that first week you think "wouldn't it just be better to put her down?"
This dog is worth fighting to keep. She's got a 50/50 chance so I'm hoping for the best.

Re: Noticeably Absent
I've been AWOL recently too, been working on a big project.

It's finally wrapping up from my involvement. Hopefully the only work we have to do is M&R from this point on.

Man, was that a lot of work!

I've been here -- and not here.
6 college classes + babe watching + college club crap + adult beverages + motorcycle riding + transferring colleges + building a resume + gun stuff + experimenting with Fedora + P90X = 15 minutes of free time

I've had dogs throughout my entire life. This one is special. Blasto is horrible. Just imagine watching your dog (or someONE you know, as it can infect people as well, although not usually as severely) being eaten away from the inside out by fungus spores.
The followup vet appointment is tomorrow so I can see how she's doing. It's hard to tell, and the first couple weeks on medication are horrible to watch. Medication, which I should add, isn't much more than a fungicide.
You spend more than half the time wondering if you should just put the dog down, but apparently that's really common.
Anyway, thanks for the kind words, BFT.
And Eddy... that's pretty funny. Looks like fun though. Congratulations.
Sno... what can I say? As long as you're in school you have NO free time.

Re: Noticeably Absent
Well it had seemed as though my dog had made a nearly complete recovery (although the blasto had rendered her blind). She was back to normal in almost every sense of the word.
Then around 3 AM this morning she howled a few times, laid down and died. Not entirely sure what the cause was, but it looked to be heart failure.
She will be missed.

I'm sorry to hear about your dog, they're family members and it's painful to lose one. How old was she?

Just six. Still had some years ahead of her.

Thanks guys.
It's actually hit me harder than I thought it would. Avoiding watching home videos for a while.
She really was an amazing dog.

Sorry for your loss. I'm a dog lover myself. I raised pits forever until my last girlfriend got wise on why her cat didn't come back home. Get another one , sure you gotta do the house training and all that but it's your baby !
