Forum troubles

Post by ssuser »

Yesterday I tried to pop in and got a message "You have been permanently banned from these forums".

Today I get into BZC okay, but whenever I try to get into the bzuniverse pages it keeps popping me to a search page. Anything going on over there that might cause this? (forums down, hacked, etc.)
I had someone tell me recently a microsoft update caused IE to pop up search pages instead of the page you were browsing to, maybe there is a setting I need to change? I'll check that too.

Uugh, never mind, I just noticed the "BZU" thread here, BZU is really GONE? That was actually a useful forum even though there was just the one section for bz1. What other bz forums are up now?

Dx are your forums still up, and if so what is the latest and proper link in which to sign in and/or register if my old info is out of date?

Banned from what forums, the way you wrote that looks like you meant bzc, if so, i have no clue as right now i don't have any control to ban anyone.

My forums are there but i keep getting the cult trying to cause trouble so i haven't allowed new people in as they turn into a target for the cult.
Let me know if you can't get in your old account.

Yea, I hated losing many posts there. I had a lot of research written down and a lot of links I'll never be able to recall easily. I'll never trust a forum again as a place to store disclosure and ideas. Big mistake on my part.

Well your threads should be in your history, you can recreate the threads if you like.

Not familiar with that.

I can see thread addresses in my history of course, and can see a cached main page of the forum. That's about it.

If BFT is a security nut like me, that stuff is deleted once a month.

Yeah, it was this forum (Battlezone Club) that gave me the banned message, I just noticed my logon settings were altered too so something got mixed up somewhere - like I said, maybe a windows IE problem. Anyway, things seem to be working now.

BFT, when you get an idea you want to save, write it down in Notepad, and THEN post it to your forum of choice, saving your notepad files to your folder of choice. I do this sometimes when trying to correctly formulate a lengthy post, though I don't save my online posts as a rule. Anything you "store" on the internet must be regarded as transient if you don't run the server - even stuff you you have stored on your own remote server should be considered at risk. Save everything locally - and remember to BACK UP!

Well yes, I should have backed up. But up until now BZU had been a rock solid forum that appeared to be stable. I never had any worries that posts would be altered or deleted as you see as part of routine practice at spock's forum for example.

So. . .que sera, sera.

I guess you are unaware CW had deleted the entire bz1 board in the past.

Maybe. But not during my 2 years visiting there. And I never had a post screwed with during that time either.

By the way. Why didn't he just pass the forum over to one of his trusted co-admins? He had like 30 to chose from.

I did, they deleted my post resently.

CW planned in advance, (ie: bots being blocked from recording the site) he did not want bzu going to anyone else and will hang onto the domain now for that same reason.

I really don't see how it matters, it's just a gaming forum, the posts should belong in part to thoses that made the posts. There's no reason to be spiteful because a few bad apples.

Yea, it makes no sense to me either.

I imagine he kinda lost it when some nutcase kid messed with him at his home or work over a silly 12 year old game.

Yes. I may have done the same thing. MANY people quit BZ for similar, but not quite as extreme, immature crap.

That said, I STILL wouldn't have trashed the forum. I may very well have walked away, but would have passed it off to someone else I trusted like Kahless did here with Dx.

Thing is, I imagine the forum is still recoverable. Maybe he will cool down and realize the vast majority that used the forum there wasn't human trash and undelete it. *keeps desperate fingers crossed*

I don't understand why you girls think that CWayne did anything above what anyone else can do. He wasn't BZU it was the people that shared their ideas and comments that made it. All can be redone , replaced and made better on a forum with a cooler admin. Back your stuff up if it bothers you that much.

Well. . .because I wouldn't have deleted the forum because some confused and troubled punk damaged my car.

If the forum admin wants to release frustration, why not direct it at who was more to blame than the people at the forum, namely the parents of the kid for not supervising what they had to know was a problem child, when they surely heard him screaming at his monitor in the basement night after night. Sue the hell out of the parents for emotional damage. Maybe they'll learn to lock the kid in his room till they can legally throw the goof out on the street.

Too bad the nutcase was a minor. Crossing state lines to commit a crime, arguably a felony, would have made him a ward of the fed for about 3 to 7.
