Post by {911}scrapmkr »

Hey guys,

I got the new parts today. I will assemble the new computer this weekend and install windoze7

I will also upgrade my daughter's computer so I can use it to play BZ :)

so trendy shops etc. should be on notice for demolition.

Scrappy's personal sexual preferences aside, I'm looking forward to trashing his trendy shops.

It's been too long Scrappy.... For both of us.

LOL,

you want one? I have one in a computer in the basement. $500.00 of course if the going price is more, you pay more. :) it IS vintage you know.

I do remember when I first got it. I was on the phone with WALL when I first entered a game. he was laughing at me because I was just sitting there watching s**t blow up, instead of doing anything constructive.

Actually it will already play BZ. but it is using an onboard video card from a very cheap mobo.
so it gets choppy.

with my old mobo/vid card it will be able to play much better.

my new computer is going to run Windoze 7.

and I can't NOT have BZ!!!! though the new "editions" apparently will fix all of that.

I will finish installing software tonight. Then I clear the kid's computer and then rebuild it. :)

I've decided to treat myself and buy/build a new computer from scratch.

Unlike Scrappy's, it won't need recycled parts from basement junk, nor will i have to scavenge parts from my daughter's PC.

it will take me a month or so to compile all the parts.

tired of stuck on a laptop at home. :)

Win7? You kidding? That bucket struggles with 3.0.

"Damnation". I like it.

I'm guessing Scrappy is whittling parts for his new computer out of firewood or something.
In the meantime I've nearly gathered all the necessary parts for my new rig.
Just waiting on the RAM to come off backorder. Might take a couple of weeks. By then scrappy may have finished carving his mouse out of soap.

What video card are you going with? I currently have an 8800GTX OC Edition and when I compare it to current video cards, it's still looking pretty good. It struggled a little bit with ME2 and Borderlands maxed out. I'm not looking forward to dropping a buttload on another video card but I'll have to replace this one eventually.

I have a few in mind, but haven't fully decided yet. I may hold out for the new nvidia cards to come out...which is relatively soon, I think.

I know in the meantime they've put out those GTX 550 Ti's which are dirt cheap and powerful enough to run Crysis2. Spiritual successors, but not real upgrades.

All I can say is stay away from the Gigabit cards. They make a damn fine mobo, but I've heard nothing but grief about their graphics cards.

Even my GTS 8800 640mb is still usable. as long as I don't expect too much from it. I can play Mass Effect 2 also, but cut the res down to windowed 1280x720.

By the way FirbirGir, do you use 'film grain' in ME? I thought it was ok as a novelty, but turned it off after using it a couple hours back in ME1.

No, didn't use film grain in either. I turned on the water, shadow and lighting effects though.

I finished ME2 and debated about getting the DCs did you try any of the extra content?

I think I almost beat you to it, scrappy.

My new rig is pretty much built. just waiting on a few parts still and using borrowed ones til then.

It's a beast. I made sure it had the monstrous specs so it could handle battlezone.

From looking at a walk thru, I'm only about 40% in ME2.
