No, I realised that. Provides some faint amusement after ten hours' lifeguarding.

Just purchased a Venomous X heatpipe for my CPU (had been using the stock heatsink/fan so far (-ugh -pretty taxing when doing video conversion using all the cores and tapping out all the hyper-threads  ) and a RAM kit.... 12GB of DDR3. Should kick some a** by Wednesday next week. 8)

I was having a hard time deciding on a CPU cooling system.... was torn between a Noctua heat pipe (in my experience they are fantastic) and a Corsair H70 water cooling system (a bit of a hassle mounting in my case, but not too hard). In the end I went with some kind of impulse buy, but a well-respected product.

I'm still squeezing life out of my Q6600 quad core and 8800GTX. I've upgraded every other part of the PC but it's just a matter of time before I'll have to build a new one. So far, it's still doing well with games.

Nice rig, Coldfusion. Windows Experience scores are always lame when they pick your lowest score. :)

I'm guessing your 1TB drive is probably 5400rpm which is why. :D

Maybe 7800, I don't remember at this point.
I am planning to add a solid state drive the first chance I get.

That's what I did....just for the operating system. Had a second drive to install all my software on. That will increase your score big time. It will boot really fast too. If I disabled my POST screen, I could boot in about 15 seconds.

I've read about some really fast boot times like that.

But win7 actually being 100% ready for you to interface from pressing the on switch without continued process interruption is usually around 20-35 seconds depending on how much crap is in your startup.

You can find start up utilities that will keep the crap from running immediately. I used to use one in Vista but haven't set it up yet in Win7. It was nice that nothing would launch at first boot, I had everything launch starting 5 minutes after boot and staggered them over about 5 minutes.

msconfig is the best tool to keep things from running at startup. Lots of seemingly innocent software end up throwing updaters in there and it's a pain in the a**, especially if your computer isn't high end.

And for most things running as services you can always set them as delayed start from services.msc

There's another little tool I sometimes use that makes pretty much anything run as a service. Doesn't work for everything (well it will, but the program may not work right). I use that for things like uTorrent and PS3MediaServer on one of my home servers.

I usually go through msconfig and disable the crap I know I don't need to be in start up.

Hmmmm...Does Java update itself when you run across an applet, or do I need it as start up?

Java runs an updater in the background and will periodically bug you to update. Used to be moreso than flash, but not anymore.

I have over 70 PS3 games but *ahem* can't play them online *ahem*.

PSN was DDoS'ed a while back. They might still be fixing that, not sure.

Not so much a problem with the games themselves, just the hardware. I selfishly decided I own the hardware I purchased and wanted it modified.

Then I went about buying a 2.5" wd scorpio blue (1tb) and backed all my games up there.

Now I rarely need a disk at all (a few exceptions) but the moment I hit psn i'll either a) be banned, or b) be told I have to update my firmware to the latest (official) release.

Weighing the pros and cons I decided being offline was no great loss.

No using a "safe" hard drive so you can connect and enjoy the rampant security updates that take 5 hours to download??
