I'm quite sure I remember asking once to both communities how having pictures and hometowns protect from hacking and I never got a response to that, which doesn't help the malice feeling any.
Well, Spock doesn't have my picture as i never released one and Spock said i don't have his picture up, yet.. he did protest too much if it was incorrect. I've been told Spock said it's his real picture.
Having his IP and hometown go together to allow others to identify him so if he causes a problem they can simply put the IP in their firewall.
Malice is why Spock made a wall of shame and he actually claims he hates people. I hate no one, hate is a pretty strong word.
I listed IP's and some things he did simply to be informative and let people be awear and choose what to do about it themselves if he becomes a problem for them as his group has for many other players. BFT showed tuts on how to use a firewall, again, informative. Even when someone commits a crime in RL the news shows the pictures, what the person did and gives the last known where abouts.
As far as how "privacy laws" work, they simply don't work, i can tell you that from first hand experience. Most busineses sell or share your personal info and deny it, this is quite common. I've caught a bank and told them about it and get the common "would you like us to send you our privacy policy?" and when i laided the proof on them they changed to, "WHO TOLD YOU THAT". I confronted verizon about it and they simply deny it, when i give them the proof, they stoped denying it and said, "we won't talk about what we do with other companies".
