Wow. I think I saw Carrie Fisher in an interview years ago. Had no idea she had gone from slave to master.

I don't know if you are referring to this or not, Snake, but yeah, as Dx says
Dx. wrote:I don't have a wall of shame.
There is no wall of shame here, Snake. A list of ban recommendations is not the same as his Wall of Shame or what's that other thread? Bad Guys Aliases?

The ban list recommendations are just that: recommendations. Feel free to play with any of them you want, but considering the amount of harassment this community has seen by their hands, the thread is legitimate.

I'm not sure if my response is going to be very popular or not, but while it doesn't explicitly state it's a wall of shame, it comes close due to posting where people live, pictures, ect. Yea, I know the other wall of shame is quite similar, but it'd help the case better if that kinda of stuff is removed.

In fact, sometimes I've wondered how a lawsuit never formed over this stuff.

There is nothing to warrant a lawsuit.
All the information there is easily found with the IP addresses. Not like anyone is giving out phone numbers and mailing addresses. :)

But I see your point. Pictures aren't necessary, for sure. As for geographical locations...well like I said, easily gleaned from the IP addresses.

One of the reasons I subsequently whited-out the others in the screenshot below from my banning tutorial I did 6 or 7 years ago is because spock incessantly brought up the players on the list up as me banning them. It didn't matter if the names did not have checks beside them. I had the IPs there to ID valid players vs hackers by blocking the IPs for a few seconds to verify who they were. At the time, that was my method. But spock used it as he did and does MANY things, to spin anything he can find to his confused perspective, to then share with the children and adolescents that were naive enough to buy his antics. Once he started his server, it took about 8 months, to concentrate all those naive kids down to about 12 of those who didn't come to BZE or quit entirely. . .to what was left of that collective ignorance.

Once pictures are released on the net anyone can use them and i didn't put where Spock lives, ie: what his address is, what floor he's on or the room number. Zegrab, Croatia is also no more info than Spock gave out himself.

Spock's wall of shame is a libal (for the most part) where as my ban rec. list states facts, kind of like the FBI's most Wanted list. ;) Spock lists anyone he feels is a threat to him where as i list only those that are doing harm to the game community and what they did. That is why the list is soo small. Harassment is not acceptable, even online. The only way people know who is who is by IP's cause they change names 20 times a day.

Infact, i know a business that releases customers names and addresses when it's found out that the customer pirated their software and no one sued.

There is nothing you can sue for on the ban list.

Exactly.

Also: I noticed that the Wall of Shame has shrunk down to about three or four people. Apparently shame has an expiry date for some.

I suppose that's true. The way I understood privacy laws were any piece of identifying data would be protected. Still though, I'm not very comfortable with these lists the way they are, I get too much of a malice feeling from them. I'm quite sure I remember asking once to both communities how having pictures and hometowns protect from hacking and I never got a response to that, which doesn't help the malice feeling any.

Well, Spock doesn't have my picture as i never released one and Spock said i don't have his picture up, yet.. he did protest too much if it was incorrect. I've been told Spock said it's his real picture.

Having his IP and hometown go together to allow others to identify him so if he causes a problem they can simply put the IP in their firewall.

Malice is why Spock made a wall of shame and he actually claims he hates people. I hate no one, hate is a pretty strong word.

I listed IP's and some things he did simply to be informative and let people be awear and choose what to do about it themselves if he becomes a problem for them as his group has for many other players. BFT showed tuts on how to use a firewall, again, informative. Even when someone commits a crime in RL the news shows the pictures, what the person did and gives the last known where abouts.

As far as how "privacy laws" work, they simply don't work, i can tell you that from first hand experience. Most busineses sell or share your personal info and deny it, this is quite common. I've caught a bank and told them about it and get the common "would you like us to send you our privacy policy?" and when i laided the proof on them they changed to, "WHO TOLD YOU THAT". I confronted verizon about it and they simply deny it, when i give them the proof, they stoped denying it and said, "we won't talk about what we do with other companies".

Can you just give us the $10 instead of holding out for proof?

I too have busted and confronted businesses about sharing my information when their "policy" states they do not. It's relatively easy to do by altering the spelling of the information you provide them. As Dx said, they deny it and say it will be "looked into" and I never hear from them again. I work with people who constantly bitch why their email inbox is slammed with spam, but after talking to them, I discover they throw their personal information around like an old woman feeding pigeons in a park.

That is how i exposed some companies over the past 23 years, even the tax collectors do it.
