C'mon America, you and those two other backwater countries are the only ones in the world not using the metric system.

Hey, I don't use both.
I'm looking at the clock and clearly it's telling me it's 7:95. You know what that means.

Re: American Debt
If we switched to the metric system, it'd take us a week to understand it and 20 years, $2 trillion to convert everything to it (signs, labels, books, charts, schematics etc) and fat people would instantly think they don't need to diet. Wait, maybe that's change we can believe in...pfff ha ha ha
My tool case would be much lighter if companies would quit importing crap that uses the metric system.
I have all my clocks and watch set on 24 hour time. I swear people give the

Like military time, having been in the Navy, it's a no-brainer,
and I'm comfortable with most of the metric scale, since I work
in the engineering fields, but I still have to stop and think
about the temperature when I hear it in celsius.

Re: American Debt
Using 2 measurement scales is like being bilingual. At first, you have to convert from one to the other in your head. After a while though, you start thinking in both...
I do a lot of electronics design which is typically in metric, though in weird increments like 2.54mm which is .1". So I end up with a mish-mash of imperial and metric scales - 4" x 6" board with 3mm mounting holes on a 5mm grid but all the components are on a .1" grid. I never really used mils though, it's easier to work in metric to me.

PS - 95kg certainly sounds better than 210lbs

Was going to do nuke school, but at 18, thought a 6 year commitment instead of 4 was a lifetime, so I 'stuck'. Went to sub school. Did sonar tech for a couple months, then hospital corpsman for a couple and settled on quartermaster (nav). Wish I had done an 'A' school out of sub school though. Rate strikers get all the crap jobs till they get their rate.Sno wrote: What was your rate?

Re: American Debt
The asshats at MEPS tried luring me into the apprenticeship crap, but luckily I had a recruiter who cared (somewhat) of what I was getting into
Originally got tied up into being an EM from the idiots at MEPS (above), then tried going crypto...but got changed during Great Lakes because Navy is full of red tape

I remember about 25-30 years ago the nanotechnology bunch was bragging about the abilities they expected to have within 25 years. To be able to make things out of the molecules that surround us with nano factories. There was to be no need for money in 25 years. This technology is being used but how. Probably weaponized. Anybody get any free toasters from nanotechnology out there?

All the wild predictions of nano-tech, genetic manipulation, IT following Moore's Law...AI, intellectual insight, etc., will all come to sharp focus over the next 30 years for a totally unpredictable new age.Grinder wrote:I remember about 25-30 years ago the nanotechnology bunch was bragging about the abilities they expected to have within 25 years.
