Who just felt an EarthQuake?

Post by Dx. »

At 1.52 pm Eastern time i was working at my pc and the desk and chair started to shake for 2 or 3 seconds. I thought i imagened it. Three mins. later the guy on the Rush show said his chair was just shaking.

I never had an earthquake in this area in my life and i heard this earth quake was in Washington DC too.

It was - DC, New York, Virginia. Apparently a 5.8, which isn't too bad if you live in an earthquake-hardened area, but the East coast certainly is not.

Don't yet know how deep underground it was which gives a better indication of the intensity.

Biggest one I experienced was about a 7.2 and about 9 kilometers underground less than 20 km from the epicenter. It literally felt like someone picked up the ground and made it wave like a table cloth. Fun though. :)

It was 5.9 and 3.7 miles deep, the epicenter was Mineral, Virginia, 240 miles sse of me.

edit: ok now they says it's 5.8, that's twice i heard it changed.
It was felt 530 to 600 miles away.

Looks like there was another last night 5.3 quake in Colorado.
Centered at 37°N, 105°W

Todays was Centered at 37°N, 80°W Did one trigger the other... :?:

On the East coast, we're pretty much fuc----- if we get anything over 7.0. 5.8 isn't much, but is a bit alarming in this region.

Having been a west-coaster for many years I'd have to say some of the coverage I've seen of this little quake is hilarious.
5.8 isn't much.

Living on the Ring of Fire gives you a different perspective on it.

Oh, they'll use anything. The East Coast gets earthquakes, just not very often or as frequently.

Was felt from Mineral, Va to Montreal so that is probably about 650 miles. (676 miles by road) That 5.8 realy traveled through the rock pretty well.

I was approximately 160 miles away in Raleigh.
I felt it for about 4 seconds, and was about as well placed to feel it as possible.
I was sitting still and at my desk. If you were driving, walking outside, etc.
you may have missed it entirely.
