Breakup of the EU?

Post by hitchcockgreen »

http://www.businessinsider.com/ubs-on-t ... kup-2011-9

Now the article talks about the breakup of the Euro, or at least breaking up the way it exists now.
Truth be told, it never should have been.
Look at the UK, one of most powerful member countries - they never fully adopted the Euro. The British Pound trades quite well on it's own.

Have you ever tried to exchange your money for Euros? Christ they are pricey.

The pathetic USD -> Euro exchange rate is what keeps a lot of Americans from visiting Europe. Mexico, however, is downright ridiculous. 6 Corona's for $3!!!???

To say we never fully adopted the Euro is an understatement, we never even came close.

I know there was a lot of pressure to adopt it, but I've never heard anyone from the U.K. speak in monetary terms of the Euro - always the Pound.

Yeah, the Sterling is the only currency we use. Scottish pounds are also legal tender, but that generally gets overlooked. As far as I remember, when the EU let loose with the Euro, the UK's answer was always a no. Then again, I was about six at the time.

Yeah but Mexico sucks. I wish Canada had gone ahead and adopted the Turks Caicos.

The EU reminds me of an extended family where you have a couple hard working and responsible uncles constantly bailing out a bunch of cousins that have no wish really work that hard, but at the same time believe they are entitled to just as much as the responsible uncles.

And this latest infuriation we see with a country such as Greece who is taking massive bailouts, but are doling out ridiculous retirement packages all the while the old uncle Germany is working his a$$ off.

Kind of like the massive bonuses AIG execs got even after the US tax payer saved their a$$.
