I tried to install tapatalk on my gTablet but I'm having trouble finding it. There are some less than trustworthy sources, I'm looking for a legit place to download it. It doesn't show up in the Android store when I check there, maybe it's not compatible with gTablet...

Here, try this: http://mm.bhbz.org/tap

I'm also pleased to see that they responded to my (any many others' no doubt) request to add moderation abilities to the app.

The android markets are jumbled. It's not that gtablet doesn't have the market, Viewsonic cut a deal with Handango and that's the market I'm "allowed" to use. I'm not "allowed" to use the Android Market because I'm using Handango. Makes no sense...

Anyway, it works fine as does any apk I install once I can find it.

Just sayin' - you could install the proper market and have access to all the apps everyone else uses. :)
There are a few tablets that have their own proprietary markets (Amazon's new Kindles for example) which exclude a lot of content. Actually from what I've seen, this is something that only happens with tablets.

http://mm.bhbz.org/market

That's the beauty of Android. Most devices get wrapped in proprietary framework overtop the AOSP....but if you know what you're doing, you can do away with that propriety framework and the bloatware usually associated with it. :)

I've been using CyanogenMod 7 on my phone to breath new life into a 1+ year old device. It runs better than it ever did on Samsung's stock firmware.

I'm loving the Galaxy II S.

I use it now 5x more than my Palm Pre'. It's as powerful as any tablet. Having the front and back cameras, the 8gb on the back and the 1080P video, it's really become a tech station in my pocket.

I put in an additional 16gb micro SD. I now have right at 3,000 Kindle books. Six full graphic novels. About a dozen audio books. Maybe around 12 hours of music. And 5 movies. Not counting the dozen or so additional apps since I got the phone.

I got the HDMI adapter so I can WYSIWYG the phone to my TV. I can definitely see the day where the PC and the laptop. . .and even the tablet. . are a thing of the past.

You're right, for budget, value and high performance, the large sheet metal box may stay with us for another decade. But once a bright enough virtual display can be developed, or a form factor convenient and ergonomic enough to please the masses, anything is possible. Heck, now with 1080P and 8gb, I may consider the functionality and value of getting detachable optics ...lol.

With flexible display tech right around the corner, I'm curious if we now see the first hints of what we will use in the coming years as the mobile device, or will it be so revolutionary and conceptually different, we currently have no clue.

Did you see the new GS II Rocket with the 2.5ghz processor? It's $250 for the upgrade but a darn fast processor (relatively speaking). The Infuse is a kick butt phone and it's down to $49. The GS II is $199 but should be down to $99 before the end of the year.

I think it's premature to predict the demise of the PC. I too believe that mobile devices will have more and more capabilities and will fulfill more of the more mundane tasks in our daily lives but modern software is going to continue to demand more from hardware and there simply won't be the necessary power required by current software in a mobile device. By the time a mobile device has equivalent power to an i7 Intel quadcore, software of that time will be demanding 10 times more. I could see laptops becoming powerful enough to do most any type of work but the lack of upgrade options forces me to have a desktop and a laptop.

I say current software because our phones today have sufficient power to run software from 10-15 years ago but it wouldn't be reasonable to try serious video editing or 3D rendering on a mobile phone. There are much better options for CPU intensive like these.

I believe the form factor will begin to change quickly in the next 4 years.

Far and away the biggest change in mobile devices in the 'near' future will be flexible devices and neurological signal control. . . IF NSC can be developed to the point of ease of use in conjunction with high percentage recognition.

Audio command input has definitely arrived. . . if you're willing to exploit it. I have it on my phone and it works surprisingly well. . .at least as well as the Nuance software, 'Dragon Naturally Speaking'. As soon as we've become comfortable with it, NSC will begin to grow quickly.

While neurological signal control is here now for purchase, I believe it is where audio commands were in the early 1990's. But that's beauty of Moore's law and Kurzweil's exponential technology curve. We may very well have a mature NSC technology within six years.

The implications are mind blowing.

Layer this onto a robust social networking digital environment, and it will fundamentally change the social setting. . .from the way you communicate with your family, to the way you conduct business. Verbal communication mixed with selective individual NSC communication within a face to face group, will require an entirely new level of nuance, persuasion, emotional control, diplomacy, etc.

It will be too much for many, mostly older people, I believe. And those who do not embrace it will become the odd auditory-only outcast.

I shouldn't think so as it is effectively a plugin. Maybe Eddy f-ed it up. :D
