It's a shame that OWS Oakland is turning into a protestor vs police situation, it distracts everyone from why they are really there...

It does. Now, Oakland police are notoriously bad, but that doesn't excuse the protesters reacting violently. However, I also understand why they are, as such situations can be very emotional and being a part of the mob mentality (subconsciously, I mean) plays into it a lot.

Whichever side "fires the first round" as it were, determines the course of the protests.

Agreed, each side is waiting for an excuse to retaliate. It doesn't take much to escalate it to a violent interaction in Oakland.

Most other OWS groups are condeming the handful of troublemakers in Oakland that are vandalizing the city under the guise of OWS. I think most know they aren't actually related, just using this as a cover their usual shenanigans like damaging property and defacing public spaces.

Oakland's a great place to raise hell for months. Never snows. Ultra progressive and passive law enforcement. Not that many really hot days. Lots of avaliable drugs, especially weed.

Righteous party time baby. :D 8)

Take it with a grain of salt, but our regulatory system is better IMO.

One of our problem is enforcement of regulation. Just like laws, regulation that isn't monitored and enforced is useless. When the economy is doing well and people are making money, enforcement wanes and questionable activities go unchecked.

This site has a full explanation - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subprime_mortgage_crisis

Good intentions gone horribly bad. The concept of allowing people with no credit or less than par credit (the young, minorities, etc) sounds noble but there's a reason that creditors are cautious with these individuals, they are more likely to default. Ultimately, that's what happened as the economy dipped and the housing market bubble burst. Now there is no real subprime mortgage market and it's unlikely to be tried again.

The regulators screwed up by not monitoring subprime activity and allowing it to mix with the prime mortgage market where it became hidden. We either need to enforce the regulations we have or add new regulation when we find gaps and loopholes.

This just in, NY cops are raiding the OWS campsite forcing the protestors to leave. Apparantly they want to clean the area up and are supposed to let the protestors back in.

Yes, this was despite a court order saying that they could indeed return to the park, and indeed bring their tents.

This hasn't stopped them, they're still there.

Private property means you can toss them all off when ever you like and if the courts don't like it, you can say, "The Park is CLOSED!"
All truth goes through three stages:

•First it is ridiculed
•Then it is violently opposed
•Finally it is widely accepted as self evident

The Canadian holdings company that owns the park only agreed to kick everyone out after Bloomberg lied about the conditions in the park.

There is already substantial evidence that there was a multi-city coordinated effort to sweep out the protesters all around the same time, and it was influenced and supported federally, which violates more civil rights...

No worries, though. Like I said, they're not going anywhere.

I don’t think this is the end of the movement, Already conversations have been changed and there is a new level of discourse about income inequality. It won’t fizzle out, there is enough energy it will likely be recreated and the occupy strategy (may increase) once the winter ends.

No tents allowed, they're back but not occupying. Freedom of speech does have limits - when it impedes on the rights of others or compromises the safety of others. OWS prevented the general public from using the park which is illegal.

Not true, local business owners and residents around the park were pressuring the property owners to do something. Bloomberg could have enforced the laws regarding the park usage but he stated publicly that he was deferring to the property owners. Once they said clean it up, Bloomberg moved S&S in to clean the park. Whether you want to believe it or not, the park conditions were not sanitary. There's no running water, no bathroom facilities, no ability to truly clean the park with all the tents, tarps and people in it. There are numerous reports from local businesses that OWSers were putting bags of human waste in their trash containers. That is not sanitary.

Now they can peacefully assemble and protest without compromising the park.

I forgot to mention, the OWSers were complaining that S&S threw away all their books. Not true...
