System Upgrade

Post by FirBirGir »

I bit the bullet and upgraded my PC last night (well, technically it was 4:00am this morning). I brought an air hose in from the garage and gave it a thorough blasting and it will take a week to clean up all the dust :)

Specs:
Intel i5 2500K 3.3ghz, running at 3.5ghz (auto OC)
Gigabyte GA-Z68AP-D3 Motherboard
Corsair Vengence PC3-12800 1600mhz DDR3 16GB (4x4) RAM
CoolMaster Hyper 212+ CPU Cooler (half the noise of my previous one)

Everything else was reused:
OS Drive - Hitachi 1TB 7200
Data Drive - 2 Hitachi 2TB 7200 RAID 0
Asus GTX 560

3dMark11 Score - P4127

I noticed a couple of things with SiSoft that I'll go back and check, namely memory.

Much Better Now - memory set to 1600mhz and I tried the turbo function. I'm now running at 3.7ghz.

Not using a RAID for my OS drive is hurting performance scores but I'm not a fan of striping the OS...

Nice build.

No, I'd not stripe the OS drive/partition unless I was running an enterprise server.
Unfortunately, with the hard drive "shortage" SSD prices have shot up. I'd have suggested using one just for the OS and redirecting documents and %programfiles% to another drive. That'd definitely boost your performance.
But now? Nah.

RAID kind of slows down performance for the OS anyways.
