got to 70 here i think today. sucked.

Today a minor blizzard. Still warm enough to snow and the winds aren't too bad.
Yesterday was +2°C and overall the winter has been unusually mild.
Ice roads are open "at your own risk" and I certainly wouldn't advise using them without great familiarity of the lake and its currents.

Still holding out for a cold snap like we had 3 years ago: -45°C at night plus wind chill. Otherwise I'm going to have a hard time justifying getting a Canada Goose jacket.

Nah. It gets plenty hot here too. Spent a summer working outside for the city of Ottawa during a heat wave that put the temps in the +45°C range. That was fun.

It's safe to say the rate of increase of global average temperature is influenced by man, but the Earth has been warming since the last Ice Age.

Earth's weather is not stable, it is infact extreme, you just need to look at the historical records.
There is no proof man has effected global temps. There is proof that the Earths temp. changes in cycles throughout the past from one extreme to another, same thing with levels of CO and CO2.

It would be safe to say global pollution is influenced by man.

I would have hoped by 2012 the debate whether or not we are contributing to a global shift in weather evolution would be a non-debate, apparently that will take a few more years. However, possibly a much worse threat of unrecoverable contaminants is only a couple decades off. We are at the beginning of a horrific dilemma.

And global pollution contributes to a more volatile atmosphere.
We know man contributes to change because of the types of CO2 in the atmosphere. Pollutants combine in the upper atmosphere to become complex compounds that further warming and volatility.
Methane contributes a lot too and industrialized farming has certainly pushed output levels there.
The debate isn't whether or not there is warming or even that man contributes at all but precisely how much man contributes.
Deniers will go on about the "green agenda" to take down the fossil fuel industries but in reality who doesn't just want a cleaner place to live?
I come from a place with a long history in the forest industry and if you don't know anything about the history of the forestry industry then let me educate you; they used to use mercury to debark the logs in the lakes. Here's the thing about mercury: over time it doesn't dissipate into the environment. In fact, it accumulates in the ecosystem. Meaning that fish, particularly in the smaller lakes, are filled with it and the generations that follow are too.
Communities that rely on fishing (I.e. small reservations that have done it traditionally for centuries) are thus contaminated as well.
It's called Minimata disease. Effects cognizance and brain development. It's equivalent to soft tissue brain damage in the frontal lobe and affects decision making and judgement.

Speaking of Mercury ... I have always been fascinated with Qin Shi Huang's tomb. I hope they are able to explore it sometime in my generation.

One of the first projects the young king accomplished while he was alive was the construction of his own tomb. In 215 BC Qin Shi Huang ordered General Meng Tian with 300,000 men to begin construction. Other sources suggested he ordered 720,000 unpaid laborers to build his tomb to specification. Again, given John Man's observation regarding populations of the time , these historical estimates are debatable. The main tomb (located at 34°22′52.75″N 109°15′13.06″E) containing the emperor has yet to be opened and there is evidence suggesting that it remains relatively intact. Sima Qian's description of the tomb includes replicas of palaces and scenic towers, "rare utensils and wonderful objects", 100 rivers made with mercury, representations of "the heavenly bodies", and crossbows rigged to shoot anyone who tried to break in. The tomb was built on Li Mountain, which is only 30 kilometers away from Xi'an. Modern archaeologists have located the tomb, and have inserted probes deep into it. The probes revealed abnormally high quantities of mercury, some 100 times the naturally occurring rate, suggesting that some parts of the legend are credible. Secrets were maintained, as most of the workmen who built the tomb were killed.
