Need some help getting started
First of all I would like to apologize in advance if I've messed up your forum by posting in the wrong place, making a redundant thread, etc.
I want to play Battlezone again but I'm not sure exactly how to go about doing it, I do have the original CD for the game, however it always crashes after completing a mission.
Not sure how to get everything switched over to the new patch (1.5 or whichever) I downloaded the 1.5 portable but I can't join any games, or access any of the singleplayer missions (which I would like to do) Does this site have it's own server for online play?
I'm not really sure which version of the 1.5 patch I should even be using (1.5 final (?), 1.5, or 1.5.1.1) Do I have to have the same version as someone else to play online with them?
I would like to get a full installation working, as well as a multiplayer only install (on seperate computers for LAN)
So far I think the entire process would go something like this
1. install BZ onto main computer (with disk)
2. Patch to 1.5
- Computer 1 can play full version of game with campaign as well as music (as long as I use the CD)
3. Install 1.5 portable onto flash drive to use in computer 2
4. ethernet cable the 2 together, then play?
- Computer 2 can only play multiplayer
Hopefully this is what needs to be done.
Why doesn't the portable version work online? whenever I try and join a game i get a message that says "mission version mismatch, please upgrade"
any help you can give me would be appreciated, I look forward to playing with you in the future
Thanks in advance

Re: Need some help getting started
Don't know how to edit previous post.
I managed to get the full version of the game working (campaign and music work fine) I still can't seem to play online though, I still get the "mission version mismatch, please upgrade" Could this be because of the server.dat file or something (I patched up to 1.5 and did the server thing) So I'm not sure what's going on.
For now at least I won't have to play the N64 version.
How would I get this on a second computer though? Is 1.5 Portable fine? I also saw that I could create an image of the disk with ImgBurn so if I did that would I be able to clone the disk and have 2 full installations?
Not sure if there is any difference other than no campaign/music.
Great job on everything though, the game looks amazing.
Just thought I'd ask again if this site has it's own server, I only see battlezone1.net and a couple others, but only the 1 has players in it.

Re: Need some help getting started
Follow the same process on both computers. Since you only have one disk, only one can play music but otherwise they should be the same on both computers.
To play multiplayer, should connect both PCs to the Internet via a router/switch/WiFi. This depends on your broadband connection and how many network ports are on the device.
What is the OS on each computer?

Re: Need some help getting started
I'm running Windows 7 on one computer and XP on the other.
I'll try connecting to the other computer since they both have the same version.
What's causing the Mission Version Mismatch? It won't let me connect to any online games, whenever I click join game it pops up.

Re: Need some help getting started
I can't get the 2 computers to link with each other over the internet (might be because 1 is using dial up) I also tried linking them together with an Ethernet cable and trying to get a game going through that, I tried all of the options (null modem, tpx tcp/ip) but none of them worked either. At one point I was able to see a game I made on the other computer but it wouldn't connect for some reason.
Would running a network with Hamachi work for LAN games? or do I actually need a router to connect the 2 by cable?
Sorry for asking so many questions, I'm not that good with networking and such.

Re: Need some help getting started
I suppose Hamachi maybe possible, I've only managed to connect to the lobbys with Hamachi, actual game doesn't connect. Probably a protocol issue I have to work out.
The only thing I can offer about you getting a mismatch is, do you indeed have the same exact version of 1.5 and the same sessions? ...on both PCs? I'm thinking you must, since you downloaded from the same link. But, it's easy to get the wrong versions with over fifty builds of the game released.

Re: Need some help getting started
I'll try Hamachi tomorrow, have to call one of my friends over with their laptop (my desktop doesn't have wireless and I have no idea how to connect hamachi through ethernet)
As far as I know both copies are the same, since I used the same patch file on both from a fresh install, which I downloaded from here.
Which version is the most widely used online, is it even a 1.5 patch? or something older.

Re: Need some help getting started
At the moment there is only a small amount of players left.
There are basically three versions of BZ played online now.
- BZ1.4 (basically the stock game off the CD) it has a couple of servers available, but I'm not sure if more than 4 people play it.
- BZ1.5 you know about this version, and you probably have the latest build. There are 2 or 3 servers supporting it. It has a total, across all the servers, of around 8 people who play it.
- Battlezone Enhanced BZE was released to the public a few years ago, but a new version, BZE1.32 is currently in testing. The community is so small that all the players, with the exception of maybe 4 or 5 people, are currently testing it. When released to everyone, it has around 12 people who play it. Hopefully BZE1.32+ will be released soon for everyone's use.
Of course there is BZ2. But BZ2 is a totally different animal from the offshoots of BZ1. I am not sure how many play BZ2 and its mods, but I suspect it's under 20 across all versions.

BZ2 is probably closer to 30 than 20... but it's still not many. And a very strange game for somebody who has only played BZ so far.

Re: Need some help getting started
I managed to get LAN working between the two computers.
- Install the same version on both computers
- Create wireless Ad-Hoc network and get the other computer to connect
- Run multiplayer through second option (IPX or something like that, the one below internet, I think)
I still had a couple problems though, for some reason computer 2 would always have to host the game, If computer 1 did, C2 can't connect. Not exactly sure what's going on with this. I can't even see C2 in the lobby if I host from C1.
The other way seems to work most of the time though, a couple times it wouldn't load properly on C2 (C1 loads and starts the match but C2 gets stuck on a black screen)
Next I'm going to try getting a game running with 3+ computers.

Yeah that happens with hamachi LAN games as well. Lame, but I think its just a limitation of BZ.Otaku-Senpai wrote:I managed to get LAN working between the two computers.

It would be great if BZ1 had the same server/hosting options as BZ2 but that will likely never happen.

Re: Need some help getting started
Just a quick question unrelated to networking.
How do I equip 2 different weapons in the same category without overwriting the one I want to keep?
for example, I'm in a vehicle with 2 rocket slots, I want 1 Hornet and 1 TAG Cannon, I already have a Hornet and a Shadower, how do I pick up the tag cannon without it replacing the hornet?
I've tried having the one I want to keep selected, as well as the one I want to get rid of selected, but the game just seems to do whatever the hell it wants which is most of the time replacing the weapon I want to keep.
So far the only way I've gotten it to work is just build 2 of 1 weapon then 1 of the other, then pick them up.
Which is a waste especially in multiplayer games.
