Hey everybody. I have decided to publish my book as an ebook through Amazon/KDP (Kindle) and also through Smashbooks. I will be through with the final editing and formatting for Kindle in about a month. If anyone is interested in creating the cover for my ebook. let me know.
Here are the specs and some tips.
Kindle is the largest ebook retailer. The Catalog Cover has exact specifications released in the Amazon Publishing Guide. It should be:
600px x 800px is the best choice if you pick one.
72 dpi
JPEG or TIFF
For the Embedded Cover, this is more difficult. The published guidelines are as follows:
600px x 800px
JPEG
300 dpi
Under 127 KB
Getting an image both at 300 dpi AND under 127 KB is very difficult. The Kindle displays are actually 167 ppi… so I’d suggest altering the resolution to 167 ppi – 300 dpi, or as high a resolution that you can get while staying under 127 KB. Many say 72 dpi is just fine.
Ok, here is some more to think on. If the actual cover is made with models/textures that were produced by Activision, then the assets and pictures belong to Atari, and they sue everybody.
If you have any idea/concepts, etc.. and are serious, email me at colkahless@sbcglobal.net I will use the best one and credit your name in the acknowledgments page of the book.

So, 9000px wide and 1280px tall is acceptable?

How wide is "too wide " (that's what she said)?

Further up in the DOC I got on formatting stated,
Thanx, Kahless
I edited that and I think that will be the best.600px x 800px is the best choice if you pick one.
Thanx, Kahless

That's an exceptionally low res for a graphic design.

Right off of the Kindle Publishing guidelines. "Please size your cover art 500 pixels by 1200 pixels at 72 dpi "

Did the book cover ever get done? I'm still looking forward to reading your work. When will it be published?

BTF apparently isn't going to finish it, so I am checking with a local artist. Right now I am trying to finish a hard rewrite on an important chapter before publishing. The chapter is about 10% of the total book. I will let you know when I am done. Trust me, no one wants this done more than I do.

My sister is a photographer, graphic artist and author. She also does book covers. If you have something in mind, I'd be happy to talk with her and see what she could do.
She published her book through Amazon and Smashwords as well.

Thanx Eddie. I have a young artist in mind in my home town, but I will get back with you if he declines. I made a lot of progress on my last chapter today. I have been beating my head against the wall for a month trying to put a square peg in a round hole so to speak. I finally resolved to stop the direction I was going and it will be smotth sailing the rest of the way through.
