Wouldn't take much to put up a BZE kick starter page or even PayPal account but ultimately that's up to Dx.

It's not up to me, I don't care if you get a License from Atari and have a Bz store. ;)

I donate $5 a month to the other private server I play games on. Thing is they have a few hundred+ active players whose been on here for a long time so they donate as well. In fact, today http://www.e-warzone.com/ Warzone just got transferred to a faster/upgraded server which makes the connection to it a lot quicker. Ever since its gotten new owners about 1/2 year ago it's only been up hill.

A dedicated ad campaign would draw more people in. I've experimented with that before with little success. Mainly because it was an experiment with free advertising my host provided.

I still have credits available. Maybe I should try again. What we could use is a promo trailer.

16 year old game! Let's wait and age it. ;)

Nah nah BzE could benefit from a promo trailer. I mean c'mon, we can't use Spork's SP mission and hack videos.

I should record and render some games. Would like to include some strategy, but unfortunately there hasn't been any in a few weeks....that I've seen anyway.

Maybe I'll try and get some LAN game footage recorded this week....

He didn't make any single player missions, those are scripted in C++.

At this stage in BZE, what we're talking about def. ain't going to hurt it anymore what it's already been through

It's true, however when it comes to the older ones I don't think their interest in the game aged well.

I'm slowly trying ween myself off of my old Logitech Interceptor (requiring 98se) to W7 or XP with my Saitek Cyborg-X . . . meaning, I can record moderately decent resolution (1600x900) video of games at very respectable frames rates (~40).

To me all of the past videos of strat or DM I have seen show ...well... the game. No real strategy in the sense of learning from the video. Everything from sporks silliness to decent DMs by Lt. Dobbs DMs which are pretty decent in offering technique and proper fighting skills, but the music is usually very overbearing and distracts from the experience.

I guess what I am suggesting or asking is, what is needed to 'market' the game vs someone just posting one of the games they've played and some music they like?

I dunno...home made game captures are fine. DM makes for nice clips but strategy is harder to demonstrate in a video that doesn't clock in at 30 minutes - 2 hours long.
And I hear you about over bearing music.

As far as a "trailer" goes its not just the content but distribution and placement. Not only would you have to consider basic game features to demonstrate but you might also have to touch on or highlight what separates BzE from stock.

And as I said; placement. Just throwing the video up on YouTube isn't going to garner a lot of visits unless from people already looking.

The video would have to be "featured" somewhere, or at least presented somewhere with substantial traffic where it doesn't have to compete with the din of a million new senseless videos each day.

A couple weeks ago I was asked to purchase 16 laptops for clients (specifically for high school/college kids).... guess what I'm including on the distributed image...
