What OS are you on?
How did you install to get that picture.
Windows 7

I just extracted from the .zip file, and ran the installer, as far as i know I'm using the only .exe file in the install folder.

Also, I'm a guy, thought I should point that out.

There should be two executables in the install folder, use the one that says D3D9 on it.
Also, is anything listed in the symlog.txt?

There is only 1 exe, there is no D3D9. (I'm trying to run the Red Odyssey, not BzE.) Unless TRO is also supposed to have a D3D9

Only think in the symlog is "Couldn't find file "nk_1sun1.map"

TRO does not have D3D9. Only BzE and BZ 1.5 do.

What directory did you install TRO to?

Uninstall it and then reinstall it to its default directory.
In windows 7 folders like My Documents can act very much like symlinks.

Even better, install right to the root of your drive. I.e. c:\the red odyssey

That and default should work flawlessly.

I noticed in win7 64bit that if installing a 32bit game to the x86 folder, there is a direct draw entry made in the registry which doesn't occure when the install path is the root.

Verified that it works just fine when installing to %PROGRAMFILES% and root on windows 7 64bit.

Have not tried C:\Users\thisguyrighthere\Documents\Games\whatever

When you change the install path, you should do it in the installer or it will break some things.
Never install, then copy the game some where else.

In stock the only registry entries made, if I recall correctly, were simply registering the path to the executable.

The reason for this seemed to be for patches to be applied or in the case of tro; to determine that bz was indeed installed.

I haven't tracked the registry entries for bze or 1.5 but I've not had issues with "portable" versions (I.e. copied over, run from a flash drive, etc) but that is by no means universal. Couldn't guarantee the same results on other peoples computers.

Going to try 1.5, but I'm also putting on bZE in case things don't work out.

That's ok, I'm done with the semester now, so I should be able try again this weekend without as much trouble (I hope...)
