Re: Combining Forces for BZ Sake???
Wow Atari is really suffering, called the New York branch got transferred to the correct department only to leave a message on the persons phone. I will try again tomorrow or see if they return my call.
I atleast got a hold of someone in the legal dept. so there might still be some chance.

Re: Combining Forces for BZ Sake???
I'M VERY CONFUSED ON WHAT TO DO NOW AFTER READING THISOn March 6, 2008, Infogrames made an offer to Atari Inc. to buy out all remaining public shares for a value of $1.68 per share, or $11 million total. The offer would make Infogrames sole owner of Atari Inc., thus making it a privately held company.[26] On April 30, 2008, Atari Inc. announced its intentions to accept Infogrames' buyout offer and to merge with Infogrames.[27] On October 11, 2008, Infogrames completed its acquisition of Atari Inc., making it a wholly owned subsidiary.[13]
On December 9, 2008, Atari announced that it had acquired Cryptic Studios, an MMORPG developer.[28]
Namco Bandai has purchased a 34% stake in Atari Europe on May 14, 2009, paving the way for its acquisition from Infogrames.[29] Atari has had significant financial issues for several years now, posting losses in the tens of millions since 2005.

Re: Combining Forces for BZ Sake???
They called back. I explained to him the situation about Battlezone & how the game can get published on gog.com as well as there's a fanbase out there still that plays the game, but all the guy said was "They'll take it into consideration" in a voice that sounded like that was the end of the convo. So I went ahead to say if anything I can be reached back at this number, but the convo was very weak & unintuitive. I've had better convos over the intercom at Mcdonalds ordering food at the drive-thru..........
This is a bad time to have any dealings with Atari - I found out 1st hand. You guys are right this does look very dark & bleek

Just call them back and offer to take Bz off their hands, all rights to the Activision Bz pc titles, what will it take, you'll have your cpa cut a check. Have them turn over all assets for Bz1, Bz2 and Red Odyssey and you'll have no restrictions on their console titles of Bz.

Re: Combining Forces for BZ Sake???
I don't think Atari would care much or charge, the only thing that carries the name Battlezone is that silly PSP game -- and I don't think it would be covered by the same copyright. The BZ we know is dead in their mind.

They can keep their trademark name, it's worthless.
The company is broke, we could take up a collection and buy them out of the bz series.

Re: Combining Forces for BZ Sake???
At the end of Dan's review, he says, "Either way, we’ll be keeping a close eye on the project here at IGM."
That got me excited . . till I realized it wasn't 'IGN'.
Even if BZ was tangentially mentioned in such a manner on a mega-game site like IGN, the sheer run-off of curiosity would have led several dozen to BZE or BZ1.5.

Re: Combining Forces for BZ Sake???
I'll call them up & ask sometime this week - I have to get transferred to the correct dept. as well as the proper person, who more than likely wont be there so I'll leave a message.
this time I will get a name, phone number, & extension so if anyone else is also interested it will make the process a lot easier & we're all not talking to 5 different ppl.

Re: Combining Forces for BZ Sake???
Lets see... the bz series for pc, Atari got the rights for the use of their trademark name for a period of eight years.
That is about an 8k value.
Bz was a success but a minor one, TRO was a complete failure and Bz2 cost 2 million and was cut short and left in a beta state and was a flop.
Bz clearly has the highest value and is 14+ years old, the trademark name is worthless and unwanted.
Question is, how much was the gross on sales at release time, depreciate that for the age of the games and out dated code.
Another question would be can it be legally resold without having to pay a platform license fee to microsoft.
If we did get the rights, what would we do with it, resale it as stock plus fixes?

I think you'd have a tough time finding someone willing to pay even a few hundred for it.

Re: Combining Forces for BZ Sake???
That would only cover an attorney for 1 hour but ik what ya mean, 8k 14 years ago so maybe 2% of that would be the value or about $160. Like some old vehicles, it would cost more to transfer than the actual value.

Re: Combining Forces for BZ Sake???
This is a very intriguing prospect, I must say.
This is the question I would have. Putting the game on gog would be awesome, but...it's the license to BZ. I feel like putting it on gog and calling it a day wouldn't be using the license to its full potential. But I can't think of anything else to do with it, besides make a BZ1 remake, expand BZE, and...that's about it. You know?Dx. wrote:If we did get the rights, what would we do with it

We could make a BZ II and show what it should have been?
