X Flare heading for Earth

Post by Dx. »

An X Flare 1.4 is heading directly at Earth, was said it could have the effect of an X 5.
Should get here on the 14th.

Long ago the one that took down the telegraph was said tobe an X 40, in 2003 and X 5 did damage.

I will if they turn out. There were some aurora last night but kind of just a green glowing smudge in the north.

Your chances of getting pics from me are slim. the promised thunderstorm turned into a muggy overcast. hopefully it clears up later.

Oh well.. i'm sure we'll see the big flare within the next 12 months as predicted.

Which reminds me, if we did have a really powerful flare like maybe the X 40, what's the best way to protect your data?

I'm thinking if i put data on a usb flash then put that in a filing cabinet. (or maybe a cd would be best)

I wouldn't think a filing cabinet would be very well shielded against EM.
Even if there was something as monstrous as an X40 there's no guarantee it'd even be projected towards the earth.

Here I didn't see anything more than a green smudge in the sky Friday night. Not north enough I guess.

Well by Friday night I mean about 2:30 or 3 in the morning Saturday....and that's all I got. Too cloudy otherwise.

Larger CMEs tend to create cloudy weather here.
Always see the best aurora when its unexpected.
