They've been putting small doses of heroin in every release since day one.

I can only imagine the kind of spam hammer you've received if you signed up somewhere to receive an email for every 1.5 update.

Years ago when I was active on Spock's forum he would send me emails all the time some I knew were mass emails etc. - and some of them were very personal - some even threats.

Glad your back Xtreme, you'll find that a couple of the BEST maggers of all time play on BZE & the strat is VERY competitive. I know when you use to play years ago, you yourself was very good - should stop in shake that rust off & play Lil Pain or Dobermann :D

Those constant emails and the requirements to sign up were kind of creepy.
I assume it was all so that they could find you on facebook or something.

It's to have leverage so he can make a better threat to control people.
As i've heard, there are two ways to control people, by fear or hope, Spock doesn't seem to spread any hope. hehe

I get 100% loss for Dobs too. Never used to unless at work. Don't think I've seen him online while at home because he's usually sleeping by then. :)
If you're lucky tomcat only has one instance of bze loaded...even if not, I can usually see one instance of him.

So whats the dilly with the 100% loss on my end? I have security appliances running, but they shouldn't be interfering like that.

Our IPs aren't private tomcat. If paco pops in for a screenshot they all have our IP addresses.

As for your question, Sno, essentially it's grey listing.
people end up getting a dynamic IP that their ISP has had flagged at one point or another for spam for DoS attacks...whatever.
ISPs don't really care much about clearing those records.
At home I can never see Tailspin, which most of the time is a blessing, honestly.
And at work I can't see him nor dobs nor lil pain.

I seem to have solved most of my issues with seeing players at 100% loss and difficulties joining games by jumping over my router with D-Link's "DMZ Host" feature. I use it only for my old 98se PC, so it's no big deal to skip the FW and other router features.

That will solve it for many users for sure. Some ISPs use their own "special" DNS services which you may or may not be able to opt out of (I opted out as soon as I switched providers)- some issue their own wireless router/modem combos which you can't even adjust DNS settings.
Often stale or restricted DNS records are the cause of the 100% loss.

Some higher end routing hardware may have built-in services that filter - sometimes through subscription licensing, sometimes you can't opt-out.

My Buffalo M300 is currently inoperable after a bad firmware flash so I've been using a sonic wall T100 and a Cisco WAP. I do miss the customization options that router has.

Sonic wall (now owned by Dell) has both the subscription filter and some in-house filtering.
I haven't tried putting my laptop in the DMZ yet as it requires a few more routing and nat rules that I haven't bothered creating yet.

I may just run another cable or two and dedicate one of the ports on the sonic wall as DMZ and route any of the PCs I want in that zone to it through a secondary switch in the "server room" (I.e. basement). That would be more ideal than assigning a static IP to a laptop that isn't always on my home network.
