First one I have seen available. Not a bad price either...

Yeah seems the higher end brands are still only offering 3TB drives.

The hitachi drives are lasting longer than Seagate/Maxtor drive I have. A Maxtor brand 1TB drive died last week, it was a year younger than the 4 Hitachi drives I have (which haven't had any sort of problem for ~3 years). It's hard to predict which manufacturers will have reliable product on any given day...

I haven't touched a hitatchi or Maxtor in a long while.
Use Seagate for some things but usually WD for important stuff.

In my XP PC, I have a 4 year old Hitachi 1tb, one Seagate 250gb around 5 years old, and one Seagate 375gb around 6 years old.

Knock on wood, all are cruising along great.

I have 3 seagate drives, all have lasted many years so far.
I had 2 WD's fail and one maxtor.

Going to be testing out the new WD Reds in a Qnap NAS in the next week or so.

One thing I'm really liking about having only SSD's in my laptop is removing the worry of smacking platters from moving the laptop around and bumping or dropping a few inches from a hand slip. Sort of like a giant tablet.

Just rebuilt my HTPC with pair of 2TB Seagates SATA3 and a pair of 1TB WDs SATA2 both Raid 0. That gives me 6TBs for recording shows, about 500 hours of HD. I bought a HD Homerun 3 tuner receiver and my old system couldn't handle recording 3 shows and playing something on the screen at the same time. That won't be a problem any more...

My server is now up to 9 drives - 4 2TB drives in a Raid 0 config, 2 2TB drives mirrored, 1 2TB backup drive, 1 1TB for the OS and a 2TB in the dock on top of the server so I can move huge amounts of data quickly by moving the HD between my PC and my server.

Scary thing is, I am about 60% full already...

I'm assuming that's a double platter drive.
The barracuda line was sitting at 2.5 tb last I checked.
