I just picked up a new Ruger 10/22 Carbine with stainless steel barrel to plink with my wife. It looks a lot like this one but with camo stock.
I put a 3-9x40 scope with over-under mount on it and a 25 round clip. Nice little rifle for sport shooting, reminds me of the remington I had when I was young.
It has a synthetic stock on it but I'm already searching for a solid maple stock to replace it. I'm too old fashioned, I prefer wood stocks.
Nice. If I was given the choice of only one gun to own, a 1022 with a scope would be my first or second choice. Inexpensive, accurate for hundreds of yards, practical for 150, dirt cheap and easy to find ammo.

For some reason, it's not easy to find 22 LR around here. There seems to be a run on most ammos, I can only find 22 Magnum, a few high power shells and shotgun ammo at the local shops. Even online, a lot of places are sold out of 22 LR or are wanting twice the normal street price for it.
Well yea, since the school shooting several months ago, ammo and guns have been hard to get. A couple guys at work are thinking of buying brass, bullets, primers and gunpowder and making ammo and selling it. But brass and primers are in very short supply as well.

That's not an option for rimfire though... My next acquisition will be a lever action 32 cal or greater. My brother picked up a sweet 45-70 recently, powerful gun at short range (relatively short - 100yds). We were devastating 2 liter bottles of soda with it
Bass Pro Shop received a shipment of ammo this morning so I was able to pick up a box of 525 shells for $24 or about $.045/shot. They'll be sold out by tonight...
You have to show up the morning after a shipment arrives or you're SOL. I stopped by Bass Pro Shops the next day and sure enough, they were sold out of 22LR. I had my brother check in southern IN and all their shops were sold out too.
After the gun shooting, government reinforced the gun control. Guns are really hard to get and metal detectors are installed everywhere for the security reason.
The ammo shortage is driven by the fear of more gun/ammo restrictions and/or "sin" taxes on ammo. The efforts to pass more federal gun controls has failed for now but the states can and do continue to regulate guns.
Some regulations are reasonable but some are not. It took a court order for Illinois to finally have a concealed carry law, the last state in the nation to enact one.
