Gave it a little test and so far Hardware mode craws @ 7fps and while software mode runs (300fps or so) for a short time, it ends up crashing.
Starting the game sometimes has an error save graphics failed.

Most of this can be due to the windows default video driver as it failed to install the Windows 8.1 64bit ATI driver.

As far as Windows 10 goes... it's almost exactly the same as 8.1 except all the apps are in the old start menu setup you can access them with the windows key and you boot to the regular desktop now. (oh and the install was only 12GB instead of 8.1 being 18GB-19GB)

From what I heard during my studio's shift in the game development lab at university they may be planning to make Windows 10 the last one and a service instead of a product, with payments for major updates. Whether that's the case or not I don't know.

Seems odd to me that they should skip Windows 9 - I know the joke is that every other Windows OS since 1999 has been terrible, but if that's the reason then they're skipping the wrong one!

I don't know anything about those games.
I also tested the Bz1.4 i have here and the shell worked but it would crash (sw mode) soon as i tried starting the game loop. hw mode produced the save graphic error soon as i tried to run the game.

MS store told me MS plans on going to a subscription service so you'll pay once a year for use of Windows. (I have that on Office 2013 atm Licensed till the end of the year) I guess Linux will be looking a whole lot better.

Microsoft is offering MS Office and OneDrive as a subscription model and for me, it's less expensive than buying the OS since I can install on 3 PCs for $99/year.

At work, we're already on the subscription model for the OS so it's not surprising to me they want to go this route for consumers too.

On the version numbers, the actual versions don't match the published names. It's listed here

Heh, 8 and 8.1 are 6.2 and 6.3.
That must mean 8.1 is really Windows 9 so that is why the next version is 10.

The Windows 10 tech preview is Build 9841(8.1 is Build 9600).

This is still nearly 15gb less than Vista and W7, and only a little more than a full XP installation. In this day and age anybody who doesn't have the space to install a 20GB OS is well overdue for an upgrade - hell, I can buy a flash drive big enough for less than an hours' wage.

Tested BZE in the preview as well.
Well, at least as a virtual machine....

Started and ran with little issue (had to set compatibility to windows xp). Full screen mode appeared like window mode - except centered with a black background.

Other than that, it ran smoother than it ever has for me in a virtual machine.

I've compiled in VS2012 and VS2013 the later had an issue with the new "fmax" code that was replaced. VS2012 works ok except for you need to set compatibility mode to get the avi's to work. (svhraz & sspilo work with the MS codec)

I retested Bz in Windows 10 Build 9926 and it's working very well.

Yeah I've never had an issue with it in Win10.
