noob question

Post by immortal king »

Hy, not really sure where to post this, so here goes:
I've been playing BZ since it came out, and haven't played it in years, I feel kinda nostalgic at the moment, i see there are some mods available to download and my question is, what to download, where is it located on the forum, are there mods that just fix bugs with no new units, and most important, can I play it online?
Thanks for answers, cheers everyone!

P.S. sorry for the bad English.

edit: btw. I forgot to mention, I have windows 7

At this moment, the old BZ you remember has not been really fixed for many years.

There are two mods that might interest you.

One is BZ1.5. But it is changed every few days because it is still being developed. It will allow to play the single player missions.

The other is BZE or Battlezone Enhanced. It gets played every night by several people. But it does not have the single player missions.

Here are places to find them.

Thanks! Downloading now. The fact that I have windows 7 is irrelevant?

BZE and BZ1.5 should be no problem with W7.

I have Bz1.4 in the download section but it doesn't have all the fixes, just some.
I may make a strickly stock/fixed 1.4 some year but not now.

Posting a stock installer would be nice for completest collectors but not exactly practical. It requires a few fixes of it's own just to run on modern OS'. :)

I believe I have a stock installer upped to my servers. It could be linked if need be.

Oh, and immortal king - if you have any problems installing let us know.

don't bother downloading 1.4 I haven't played it in half a year.
if you are more in to mods you should try battlezone enhacned. If you prefer the game as much stock as possible and at the same time playable on your computer download battlezone 1.5.

Yes probably. There are some that prefer stock though. Personally, I don't endorse Spock's all-in-one installer for many reasons; chief among them it's unnecessary. Having your original CD is a point of pride and if you have it there should be no need for it.

Despite everyone's efforts how many users are completely new to the game rather than those who have played it in the past?

Snake means he'll do or say anything to gain new players for 1.5 mod/patch, including sitting in the Bz Enhanced lobby till past 2AM to find players he can talk into going to 1.5. While in 1.5 you will be given propaganda, told you have to choose which game you'll play or be banned for punishment.

As far as mods go, 1.5 is closer to a total overhaul mod while Bz Enhanced sticks much closer to stock but there are differences. BzE has a large map pack where map makers was allowed to do what ever they liked and that means Snake's group uses anything new as a point of arguement to not use BzE.

I encourage you to try whatever you like.

Now that I have played roughly eight years of BZ and around 4 years of BZE, and have periodically dipped into the iteration-mod known as BZ1.5, I still find BZE far and away more entertaining because of the vast amount of extra content, while still offering 100% of the old BZ content.

As to the issue of the 'other' server'... Paco, for whatever reason, is back at the BZE 911 server. . . probably a combination of lack of meds and cycling through another bout of his manic episodes. He will sometimes ask why 'we' still insist on playing BZE. I suppose with his malady, he may not remember he has the vast majority of BZE players banned, but in actuality, most all that are at BZE want the option at hand to play the extra content. But at this point in time, at least from Paco's perspective, the particular mod has nothing at all to do with who is at what server. Paco simply does not play the game. Even when a vaguely coherent discussion about the pros and cons of each mod is brought up, it is clear he is parroting what he has heard or read and not from actual experience of game-play of EITHER mod...BZ1.5 or BZE.

The critical important aspect here is BZE offers everything BZ offers, but much, much more...period.

We have all written our opinions about what reduced the BZ community to numbers to under 18 across all the mods and the original...hacking, OS issues, vid card issues, mods fragmenting the community. Dealing with a manic depressive is just but another slice of the 'what killed BZ' pie chart. Albeit, one of the smaller slices at this point in time.

I usually took Harry's presence to mean that there wasn't anyone on the other server.

Maybe Snake can clear this up for me, but I believe I had read that the other group has officially cut support for 1.4? Did they remove the session for their server yet?

Well, there ya go, it's official. . .it was primarily fear of the old BZE players all along.

I am still banned and supposedly I was banned for several things, but one of them was the accusation by spock that I hacked.

I must have learned how to hack 1.5. Awesome code skills since I have barely looked at the mod in 18 months.

Yes, according to Spock, we are all supreme hackers.

We're all banned and yet, I'm fairly certain on any given day you'll see one of our mannequins in their lobby.

From the 17 games in 1.4 yesterday vs the 32 in 1.5, i would say things aren't going so well.

Whatever his reason, it's all rather silly. Especially when he reverts to the script.
