Yeah so I'd put off watching the series for a long long time.
Just started this weekend.
Suspected that it was filmed in Vancouver after watching the miniseries.
After seeing this scene I was positive.
That's the central branch library. Actually haven't seen it used in film/tv too often. Maybe the Outer Limits.

Re: BSG
There was definitely an 'era' in which sci-fi shows seemed to be almost exclusively shot in Vancouver.
The Olympics probably pushed prices up to make filming there a lot less cheap.

We don't even have to give it to them. Just the prospect of getting bacon is enough to lure a lot of people.

We built those instead of army bases along the border.
We knew any invading Americans would succumb to a big breakfast.

Yea, seemed like every SG1 episode of desolate, but forested planets, looked like a Washington State Park.

Re: BSG
Lower mainland ... Vancouver, west Vancouver... city shots of Caprica most definitely Vancouver.
Found myself playing the old game I used to when I lived there; identifying areas/neighbourhoods/landmarks in all the outdoor shots.
The planet Kobol looked like it was further south than Endor (which was filmed up by 100 Mile House). Definitely has the prehistoric, temperate rainforest look of north or west Vancouver or thereabouts.

Re: BSG
Most Canadians my age will recognize the doctor on BSG as Dr. Grant Roberts from a show called "Danger Bay."
Basically about a marine biologist that solves mysteries...ah 80's Canadian television....
