Maps, the map editor, and a glitch

Post by Otaku-Senpai »

Is there anywhere I can download extra maps for BZ? I've tried a few google searches but nothing really comes up.

Also, I can't get the map editor to run (the MakeTRN program) I can get the other one to work (the shortcut to the game with /edit) but that only works for the single player campaigns. I'd like to try making a multiplayer map to play with friends over LAN, or possibly share here for anyone else interested (if it's not complete crap)

I moved the program and folders to addons and whenever I double click it a dos-box pops up for a split second then disappears. I've tried compatibility modes and running as admin but the same thing happens.

Also, I get a mission version mismatch over LAN if the game is started with different shortcuts. One shortcut is bzone and the other is bzint, both are located in the root directory of the game, not sure what the difference is but I think it may be that one is the original version of the game and the other is the patched version or something. Just thought I'd let everyone know in case anyone else was having this problem.

Doesn't one shortcut say 1.4 and the other 1.5.1?
The maps are in the Battlezone Modifications board.
The editor works for all maps, not just the single player.
Ok i see you're on win7 64bit i never tried maketrn.exe on that OS before.

Maketrn looks ok to me, are you sure you started it with the proper cmd line?

Yeah, bzint has 1.5.1.1 and bzone has 1.5.0.120, so I guess bzint is the newest version. Doesn't show up on the shortcut name or icon, but it's listed under properties in the details tab.
The editor works for all maps, not just the single player.
I tried loading up a map in multiplayer to edit, pressed ctrl + A and nothing happened. Are you talking about the editing program or the thing where you change a shortcut's path to c/wherever battle zone is/battlezone.exe \edit ?
Maketrn looks ok to me, are you sure you started it with the proper cmd line?
Not sure what cmd line is the proper one, I just double click the icon. (located in the edit folder in the main battlezone folder.) How would I go about changing the command line?

I can't remember how it goes now, but I believe the command line switches have to be in a specific order to work properly...

Not much help, I know...

But you have to add the map/mission name in the command line..

found a tutorial on using makeTRN somewhere, confusing as hell though, a lot of work just to start editing a map, and I'd probably have to do all that for each map I create.

Is this the only way to make maps? I thought by now someone would have made a standalone program to do all that extra stuff for you, so you could just start it up, make your map then save it and poof! everything is saved in the correct places and that notepad file thing is updated so you can access the map from the game.

But with the community as small as it is now, I doubt that would ever happen.

In BzE i have starter maps premade for people.

You don't edit maps while in multiplayer, you edit a multiplayer map from a shortcut like this:
C:\Bz1.5\bzint.exe multdm99.bzn /edit /win /nointro

The bzone.exe 1.5.0.120 is very old, delete it.

Here's an example of a cmdline for maketrn:
maketrn multdmAA /c /w=1280 /h=1280

Once you make it, you save it to a format name ie:
Map naming formats: Mission Type:
multdm??.bzn = MultDMMission
multst??.bzn = MultSTMission

UsrMsn??.bzn = Inst4XMission

and you must have atleast two spawn points in it or it won't run.

Now that I've managed to start playing online, I keep getting auto-kicked from matches from lag (I haven't noticed any and I sure as hell have a good enough connection.)

Is this the reason everyone here hates "the site which must not be named, that has a 1 in it"?

That's the only server listed on my game that ever seems to have any players in it, so I'm wondering:

1. Does this site have it's own server for online play? and if not
2. Which online server should I be using?

I'm guessing that if you don't actually have lag, or any apps running in the background that may interfere with BZ (torrent client, etc), and you say that your internet connection is solid...

...it certainly wouldn't surprise me if certain individuals on a certain server are messing with you.

We have two servers, but there aren't really any players there with any sort of regularity.
By and large we're in the BzE server session in late afternoon to late evening.

Sounds like you're working on some MP/IA maps? We'd love to see what you come up with. :)

Otaku-Senpai,
Noone here hates anyone, the guy that runs the other server was perma banned here long ago because of the trouble he causes.

We have two servers online all the time that support ALL Activision games that used activenet.

You can use whatever server you want, that is your choice.

Dx. is exactly right, we've been through the good & the bad of Battlezone over the years & this forum along with its servers is the best around. A lot of time, patience, & dedication is what brings us here today, so enjoy the game & what it has to offer. Everyone mostly comes on around the evening time eastern standard time to game.

Forgot I was running Bittorrent... Feel silly for posting about it now.

Ah, I guess I just jumped to that conclusion since even mentioning their site could get you banned here.

Would those be the alint.bz911.com and 911.alink.bz911.net servers? Those 2 and "that other one" are the only 3 listed (BZ 1.5.1.5)

What is the difference between BZ and BzE? any major differences? (Guess I might have to get BzE now as well.
Sounds like you're working on some MP/IA maps? We'd love to see what you come up with. :)
Well, I'd be glad to upload whatever I make for everyone, if I ever figure out what the heck I'm doing.

Since I have no idea what the above quote means.

I had a couple of ideas though, one of which was a map modeled after the Block Fort level of Mario Kart 64

You don't get banned for mentioning it here but the link is auto-banned.

We don't ban people here whether they mention the other faction, play there or not.
That's their prerogative.

BZE is in the in house mod/update for bz (although it is a stand alone) that includes fixes, dx9 code, tro vehicles, some bz2 vehicles and more.
Check it out but install it to a separate directory than bz or tro.

Spock, his web sites and installers was perma banned, only way people get banned is breaking the forum TOS and or getting 3 warnings.

On their server you can get banned for speaking the name BzE, or posting any where they don't want you to post or for no reason at all etc.. etc....

So basically, if I want to play BZ 1.5.1.5 I have to deal with "them" since the majority here prefer BzE.

Alright, I've downloaded BzE and installed it.

Haven't played any games yet, nothing listed. Guess I'll try again later.

Can you use the new races in multiplayer?

What's your preference; dm or strat?
Arrangements can sometimes be made in the bze lobby to play stock or tro.

We used to have all our installers bring you to the same server session regardless of what flavour you preferred.
Kind of a uniting feature I miss....

I'm not sure which one I would like better, I've always wanted to play strat online against people (I never played online when I first got it) Though I probably wouldn't stand much of a chance.

By stock do you mean the original BZ? (not enhanced)

I also got TRO but the textures are all messed up, I'm pretty sure I have the most recent version.

If you're really hankering for a round, maybe I could help with that... the times I can be around is very strange though, I must warn you.
