I finally tracked down the 22 I really wanted, a Marlin model 39 lever action takedown. This is the gun I had as a kid and shot many a squirrel with it. I have been searching on and off for a couple of years now and was about to resort to gambling on gunbroker.com when I happened to stop at the Cabelas nearby. I didn't realize they sold used guns so I stumbled across this gun in their inventory.
It's all original and in good shape for something over 90 years old. It's a lot better shape than the one I had when I was young (and I know I had something to do with that!).
I took it to the range today and ran about 100 rounds through it; 22 LR standard velocity, 22 Longs and 22 shorts. The gun works great, not a single misfire or misload.
